Annually the Woman's Club of Hermosa Beach provides over $20,000 in support of worthy philanthropic, civic, and cultural organizations and events. Some representative recipients have included: Scholarships for graduating high school seniors, grants to two local elementary schools, the Hermosa Beach Art Walk, The Hermosa Beach Police Department, the Hermosa Beach Fire Department, Ronald McDonald House, the Belasco Theatre Company, Project Touch, the South Bay Literacy Council, and more.
Further, Club members give thousands of volunteer hours per year in a host of services to the community and to their Club. Members have served in a wide array of capacities including at the annual Fiesta Hermosa celebration, a Holiday Tree Lighting Hot Cocoa Booth, the South Bay Literacy Council, the Friends of the Hermosa Library, fundraising to benefit cancer research and pediatric cancer patients, and much more. Volunteer opportunities are not "assigned;" mostly, members find their own niche where they can best serve, and then roll up their sleeves and pitch in.
Central to Club Life is the monthly meeting at 11am on the second Wednesday, September through May. (If daytime meetings do not work for you--see the "Evening Divison" page.) Meetings feature a catered lunch (reservation and a fee) opportunities to socialize/network, an agenda of the Club's business, and frequent presentations that are informative or entertaining. While meetings are generally held at the Clark Building, the December meeting is a holiday luncheon at a restaurant, as is the May meeting at which the Board members for the coming year are installed.
One of the Club's chief fundraising events of the year is an annual Pancake Breakfast on the third Sunday in October. This is always a happy community event with activities for the children and a chance for neighbors to socialize.
The Club sponsors a Literary Salon--interested members get together on the first Wedneday of the month, usually at a member's home, to share literary interests and a light lunch, often with a guest speaker.
