Club members give thousands of volunteer hours per year in a host of services to the community and to their Club.  Volunteer opportunities are not "assigned;" mostly, members find their own niche where they can best serve, and then roll up their sleeves and pitch in.  Members have served in a wide array of capacities, a few examples are:

  • Fiesta Hermosa celebration (Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends)
  • Holiday Tree Lighting Hot Cocoa Booth (Pier Avenue)
  • South Bay Literacy Council
  • Friends of the Hermosa Library
  • Fundraising to benefit cancer research and pediatric cancer patients
  • Beach Clean-Up

Central to Club Life is the monthly meeting at 11am on the second Wednesday of the month, during September through May.  Meetings feature a luncheon with opportunities to socialize and network, an agenda of the Club's business, and frequent presentations that are informative and entertaining.  While meetings are generally held at the Clark Building, the December meeting is a holiday luncheon held at a local restaurant, as is the May meeting at which the Board members for the coming year are installed.

One of the Club's chief fundraising events of the year is the

annual Pancake Breakfast usually held on the third Sunday in October.

This is always a happy community event with pumpkins for the children

and a chance for neighbors to socialize.

Members of the Club hold a monthly Literary Salon--interested members get together on the first Wednesday of the month, usually at a member's home, to share literary interests and a light lunch, often with an "author" guest speaker.

Club Women who wish to participate in writing and photography contests, are encouraged to participate in the GFWC sponsored contests. For more information, including contact information, recommended contest ideas, rules, deadlines, and instructions on how to enter, read each Contest’s section in the GFWC Club Manual.
